22nd
ANNUAL Jumbo Jamboree 2011
It was beautiful flying weather through both days of
the event as the Mercer County Radio Control Society held its 22nd
annual Jumbo Jamboree over the Memorial Day Weekend. As always, the event was
held at the club’s Warren Kruse Field in the Assunpink Wildlife Management area
near Imlaystown, New Jersey.
Forty-nine pilots attended with all kinds of Giant Scale Aircraft making
the two-day IMAA / AMA sanctioned fly-in a great success. The event featured a
wide variety of planes and of course lots of great food. The People’s Choice Award, was taken this
year by Seth Hunter for his scratch-designed and scratch-built 1/3 scale WWI
Halberstadt III. It features a full flying stab and rudder and has pull-pull
controls on all surfaces. It also features an incredibly detailed scale model
of the Argus 120 HP straight six cylinder water-cooled engine used on the
original.
Proceeds of the event will go to the Sunshine
Foundation which funds an annual Dreamlift to Disney World for seriously ill
and disabled children. Most of the funds were raised through our food sales and
50-50 raffles. Special thanks should be
given to all those who participated including our event director, the flight
line crew, food staff, fly-by commentary and all participating club members for
doing such a fantastic job. We would especially
like to thank all of the guest pilots and local club members who participated
in the event making it the success that it was. We hope to see all of you again
next year!
